| 5 against 2 Hand Patterns | ||
| "Recently I had a wonderful lesson with my friend and student, Cary Hitsman, from Ventura County, California. Cary and I are learning about snare drum technique as ttaught by my two teachers, Richard Wilson and Murray Spivack. The basic motions in this technique are the Wrist Turn, Rebound, and Upstroke or Up Motion. With these three strokes, you can play all the rudiments. This technique is also wonderful for teaching you how to relax and play the drumset better. It really works!" | ||

| Developing Left Foot clave | ||
| One of the more recent developments in drumkit technique is the increasing use of the hi-hat pedal foot in an independent way. With the advent of the cowbell bass pedal mount, or Gajate Bracket, all drummers can now explore ideas that have previously been the domain of the Latin or contemporary Jazz player. | ||

| Drum Licks from Hell
| ||
| "I've been having lots of fun with this page, where I'm amassing a collection of recorded examples of "drum licks from Hell" - those jaw-dropping, how the hell did he DO that licks, as played by some of my favorite drummers. My goal here is to expose more drummers to some amazing playing that might not be well-known or readily available; hence, you'll see no clips from well-known or currently popular recordings, or drumming chestnuts like Steve Gadd's 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover, or Alex Van Halen's Hot for Teacher, etc. Some of these are from obscure or out-of-print recordings, but they're all worthy of listening and study. Enjoy! " |

| Left Hand Finger Technique | ||
| I find that most drummers do not hold the stick at a proper leverage, which is essential for a good rebound stroke. Some drummers hold the stick to far to the end and others to close to the middle of the stick. Neither way offers proper leverage for a good rebound. | ||
